We invite young researchers from St. Petersburg State University to participate in the workshop “Culture, Society and Memory: The Challenges of Historical and Sociological Research on Russia, Germany and the US” intends to open up a discussion forum between young scholars doing research in – and on – Russia, Germany and US. We welcome all contributions dealing with problems, changes, developments and discourses within the overall conference topic. The workshop offers an excellent opportunity to discuss research questions and challenges of individual dissertation projects in an interdisciplinary and international context.

Rapid developments of societies in the edge of globalization, glocalization and transformation pose new conceptual challenges for scholars in history, sociology and other social sciences. Do comparative approaches become necessary in historical and sociological research? Are comparisons still possible in the absence of enclosed academic, cultural, political and societal settings? Do such developments affect historical and sociological research in the same manner and to the same degree? Does the study of culture, societies and memory become interdisciplinary? Young researchers face these and related questions and problems in their PhD research.

The Call for papers will be open until the 29th of January 2012. Abstracts should not exceed 1 page,  CV should be included as well.
